Farewell to the former MD of British Motor Heritage, David Bishop.

David Bishop the MD of British Motor Heritage through the 80’s and 90’s has sadly passed away.

David’s career started with an apprenticeship at Pressed Steel where he rose to Material Control Manager before moving to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust as assistant Managing Director and then as Manufacturing Director of British Motor Heritage.

During this role, he recovered the jigs and tools for the MGB and launched body shells for its variants followed by the Midget and TR6. The availability of the MGB bodyshell made possible the development of the MG RV8 in which he played a significant part.

Before his retirement, he negotiated BMH’s move from Faringdon to superior premises at Witney. When BMW decided to sell BMH, he formed a team to acquire the business and used Longbridge tooling to produce bodyshells for the Mini and Clubman.

It is fair to say that BMH would not exist today without David’s forethought of ‘grabbing’ the tools from Pressed Steel Fisher, all staff members of both past and present owe a huge thanks to David and his efforts.  The classic car market in general and certainly the BMH specialists also owe a big thank you for the legacy left by David.

Pete Buckles will be waiting at the gates for David’s arrival asking him to produce the next part for a TR6!!

Our thoughts and condolences go to Janet, Claire & Paul.

The funeral is to be held at midday on Monday 11th August at:
Oakley Wood Crematorium, Oakley Wood, Bishops Tachbrook, Leamington Spa CV33 9QP
