BMW helps restore our Mini Trunk Lid Tool

British Motor Heritage are incredibly grateful to the BMW Swindon Plant for their support in refurbishing our Mini Trunk Lid Outer Draw Tool, which had suffered significant wear and damage after many years of use. In its worn state, each panel required extensive rework and straightening to meet our standards.

Thanks to this refurbishment, we can continue supplying our Mini customers with high-quality, authentic panels that remain true to the original specifications, preserving the legacy of this iconic British classic car.

We invited the man responsible for this incredible project (Ryan Edwards), to our premises at British Motor Heritage, to thank him for his work and show him around our factory and to hear about his journey.

We were so impressed with his story; we made a video to share his journey.

Thanks to Ryan and his team’s skill, creativity, and dedication, a vital piece of our tooling has been brought back to life, ready to press panels once again with precision and care. This work is a brilliant example of engineering ingenuity and collaboration, and a reminder of the craftsmanship that keeps classic British motoring alive.

As a token of our appreciation for the hard work and effort from the staff at BMW Swindon plant – we have donated £500 to their Charity Partner Teenage Cancer Trust.

Ryan “This has been a fantastic end of my journey of apprenticeship at BMW Swindon. I couldn’t have asked for a better final project to work on. I am also incredibly grateful to have worked alongside other staff at the BMW Plant, some who have 30-40 years of knowledge and experience.  This is the kind of stuff that I live for and to keep a little bit of automotive history alive is a plus in my books”.
